Susan Duncan

Began line dancing 20 years ago in Morganton, North Carolina, USA, this is also where my classes were held. I have taught beginner and improver/intermediate classes at the Burke County Senior Center in Morganton since 2016. Over the last few years I’ve been so fortunate to teach at several great events. My first workshop, Love 2 Dance was held in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 2012. This event was an annual workshop organized by my first instructors. I have also attended several smaller Love 2 Dance (Carolyn & Rick Robinson) events in Asheville and Valdese, NC. Big Bang (Will Craig) in Charlotte, NC in 2018 and 2019, Our Chance to Dance in Columbia, SC (Vickie Normile) 2017 and 2018 and Bette’s Weekend in Camden, SC (Vickie Normile) 2019. I was an instructor at Buck’s Country Line Dance workshop (Lining Up) in Gastonia, NC in 2019 and am scheduled to appear at Dreamin’ and Dancin’ Spring Workshop in Camden, SC, May 2021. This is a fundraiser for Scooter Lee and Jo Thompson Syzmanski’s Dancin’ For The Dream Charity. Since 2011 I have been a member of Sandy Beach Shag Club when I attended my first Carolina Shag lessons and have been the club secretary since 2012. In 2013 I became the line dance instructor for SBSC and received the SBSC Honorary Lifetime Member Award in 2018. When the pandemic hit our country, I started attending virtual line dance classes from around the world. With over 400 new dances on file and all danced in my kitchen in the first 5 months of 2020, but I needed something more challenging. Little did I know when I registered for Rob Fowler’s Legends in Line Weekend in July 2020 that everything was about to drastically change. With a subscription to VTV, I started my journey in I.C.E. (Inspire, challenge & evolve) First with instructor and technique classes and then by August, I took the next step and joined the Level 1 choreography class. Being new to choreography I attended choreography classes for 2 months before gaining the confidence to jump in with both feet. Within 3 months of writing my first dance, I have created 4 top 50 dances. October 2020 I completed my 1st dance with the very appropriate title, “American Made”. Rob stamped my dance on Daddy’s birthday October 20, 2020. I was so proud to dedicate this dance to my Dad on his 96th birthday. November 2020, “Hole In My Heart” was completed and released. December 2020, “Whole Lotta Honey” was released. January 2021, “Jesus and Wranglers” written with my friend Charlie Bowring from England. All of my dances have been co-choreographed with Rob Fowler and the I.C.E. team, without them none of this would have been possible. Never could I have imagined how life would change over the past year. I have made new friendships from around the world and learned so much from many world renowned instructors and choreographers. My sincere thanks goes to Rob Fowler for his guidance, support and encouragement along the way. My journey continues…..

AMERICAN MADE

“American Made”- In October of 2020, I decided I wanted to choreograph my 1st line dance with Rob Fowler and the I.C.E. team. I was listening to Jeni Bradshaw’s radio show and selected a couple of songs. Since all of my classes are across the pond, I decided how appropriate to have a dance called “American Made“ since I am born in the USA. My dance was stamped on October 20, 2020 on Draft 2 after changes to Section 4. This dance is dedicated in memory of my Dad on his 96th birthday. This dance reached number 43 on copperknob.com.

HOLE IN MY HEART

“Hole In My Heart”- In November of 2020, Rob Fowler played this song in choreography class and asked if someone would like to write a social dance to it for a Christmas time release. I am a huge Rod Stewart fan so I decided this song was for me. I wanted this to be a teaching dance for absolute beginners and beginner dancers. This is a dance for everyone! There is even a demo video of the children of Dury Line Dance beautifully dancing “Hole In My Heart”! This dance was stamped on Draft 2 on November 7, 2020. This dance reached number 35 on copper knob.com.

JESUS AND WRANGLERS

“Jesus and Wranglers”- In December of 2020, Charlie Bowring posted this song to choreography class. I loved the song immediately. He asked for a dance buddy and I jumped right in with both feet. This dance was stamped on January 7, 2021 on Draft 5 after we revised the restart. It was an honor and privilege to co-choreography this dance with Charlie, Rob Fowler and the I.C.E. team. Charlie and I had so much fun together we are planning future co-choreographies. I’ve made a lifelong friend. This dance reached number 1 on Everything Line Dance. It climbed to number 26 on copperknob.com and rose to number 37 on linedancerweb.com.

WHOLE LOTTA HONEY

Whole Lotta Honey”- In November of 2020, I found another song with the help of Dave Vorberg. I love the country rock style of music. This is my 1st true co-choreography with Rob Fowler as half the steps are his creation. This dance was my 1st improver dance and 48 counts. It was stamped on Draft 2 after changing Sections 4-6 on December 3, 2020 . This dance reached number 24 on copperknob.com.

Susan also took part in our large group Virtual Choreography session. The group all come together to join Debbie Ellis and Laura Sway Live.  Everyone who joined in this session contributed with ideas, counts, accents, highlight and general support
Here is the demonstration of our finished project.
